BIOGRAPHY

What I'm all about

My name is Ayla Davison, I'm a 23 year old recent graduate of 3D Production at Yoobee - School of Design. I've recently moved up to Auckland for study, but call many places home. Sparking up conversations with people inevitably leads to them asking, "So, where are you from?". An obvious or quick reply has never existed for this question... Because although I've always been within the confines of New Zealand, me and my family have never stayed in the same town for more than a year! Queenstown, Christchurch, Wellington, Tauranga, Coromandel... some honorable mentions.

Debatable pro's and con's but, with this, has come many interesting and unique experiences. The Interactions with new people I meet, the contrasts in rural and urban environments and the constant stock piles of banana boxes, have shaped me into the person I am today.

MY PERSONALITY

My passions and childhood

I have a very artistic and imaginative background, which drew me towards painting and design subjects at school. Paired with this came my passion for technology, hence my decision to take up media studies as well as robotics and technical coding classes. The last piece to my puzzle, is my love for video games. I've been gaming ever since I could remember, from a Sega, to the game-boy, to PlayStation 1 all the way up to my gaming desktop rig I own now! Pokemon, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank were my innocent childhood escapes until my mother bought me a newly released copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2... my gaming experience was forever changed and I became a lot more serious and competitive. I simply thought about what I enjoyed and what job I would pursue... doing creative design - on the computer - for video games seemed to fit!

Now days I jump through many different games on Steam, to experience different gaming styles, however always return for the daily dose of League of Legends. I occasionally draw, paint, do arts and crafts to express that creative side of me. But mostly I focus a lot of my time towards my current studies and try improve in the area of 3D production.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

The part I dread... bragging

I was always a very motivated and focused child, always dedicated to school and work, giving 100% to everything I did. My hard work would always pay off at the end of year award ceremony, when I was consecutively awarded Top Academic for each level I attended high school. My NCEA level 1, 2 and 3 were all endorsed with Excellence and ranked in the top 2% acedemic results for year 11's within the whole of New Zealand. After completing NCEA level 3, I was awarded the DUX , which would be one of my biggest achievements to date.

Massive scholarships lead me to Massey University of Wellington, where I did my first year of the Bachelor of Creative Media Production. Learning about Media studies, Transmedia Storytelling, Live Drawing, Visualization, Animation, Visual Effects, Digital Video Production and Game Technologies. After the year was up I realized university wasn't providing me enough practical knowledge and so moved up to Auckland to attend Yoobee, School of Design, where I completed my level 6 3D Production course and graduated my final year of study with a level 7 Advanced 3D Production Diploma.

Recent achievements include my participation in The Rookies Awards 2020, where I was nominated for the Draft Selection, and later went on to receive a “B” Industry Ranking Certificate in both the 3D Animation and VFX categories. This ranking helps compare my skills with other contestants/entries – which placed me in 20% margin.
